Overview
Bemelmans Bar, located within The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel, is a quintessential New York City landmark. Named after Ludwig Bemelmans, the creator of the 'Madeline' children's books, the bar is world-renowned for its whimsical murals depicting scenes of Central Park. These murals are the only surviving public work by the artist. The space exudes old-world Manhattan glamour with its 24-karat gold leaf ceiling, chocolate-brown leather banquettes, and black granite tabletops. It remains a favorite haunt for socialites, politicians, and celebrities seeking a timeless, intimate atmosphere.
Atmosphere & Entertainment
The bar is famous for its live entertainment, featuring nightly piano performances and late-night jazz trios. A cover charge typically applies starting at 5:30 PM for the piano sets and increases for the jazz trio starting at 9:00 PM. The dress code is strictly enforced: athletic and casual leisure wear are not permitted, as guests are expected to dress for the elegant occasion.
