Overview
Fukuoka Castle Ruins, located within Maizuru Park, is one of the most significant historical sites in Fukuoka. While only a few original structures like gates and turrets remain, the expansive stone walls and foundations offer a glimpse into the Edo period. The site is particularly famous as a premier cherry blossom (sakura) destination, featuring over 1,000 trees that bloom among the ruins. During the peak season, the park hosts a festival with food stalls and evening illuminations that transform the castle walls into a glowing backdrop for the blossoms.
Visitor Information
The park is always open and admission is free. However, during the annual Cherry Blossom Festival, certain areas (such as the main keep foundations) require a paid ticket (approx. 600 yen) for entry during the evening illumination hours (18:00–22:00). The site is easily accessible via an 8-15 minute walk from Akasaka or Ohori Koen Station on the Fukuoka Subway Airport Line.
