Mount Yoshino (Yoshinoyama) is widely considered Japan's most famous cherry blossom viewing destination. Located in the Nara Prefecture, the mountain is home to over 30,000 cherry trees, primarily of the Yamazakura variety. These trees are planted in four distinct groves at different elevations—Shimo Senbon (lower), Naka Senbon (middle), Kami Senbon (upper), and Oku Senbon (inner)—which allows the blooming season to be staggered over several weeks as the 'blossom front' moves up the mountain. Beyond its floral beauty, the area is a UNESCO World Heritage site, serving as a center for Shugendo mountain worship for over 1,300 years.
