Great Basin National Park is a diverse landscape located in east-central Nevada, near the Utah border. It is best known for its ancient bristlecone pines—some of the oldest living organisms on Earth—and the stunning Lehman Caves. The park is dominated by Wheeler Peak, which reaches over 13,000 feet, offering a rare alpine environment in the middle of the desert. Due to its remote location, it is also one of the best places in the lower 48 states for stargazing, designated as an International Dark Sky Park.

The park is open year-round, though many high-elevation roads and facilities (including the Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive) close during the winter months due to snow. The Lehman Caves Visitor Center is generally open daily except for major holidays. Reservations are highly recommended for cave tours, especially during the summer months.
