Choose Your AI Client

Connect Tote where you already ask for help

Choose the assistant you already use. Each guide gives your AI the instructions it needs and gives you 1 message to copy.

Let Your Agent Set It Up

Paste 1 Prompt Into a Coding Client

This works best in agents that can edit their own MCP configuration and open an OAuth login.

Add the Tote MCP server at https://mcp.tote.fyi/mcp to this client. Request read and write access, start the OAuth sign-in flow, and let me review the permissions before authorizing. After it connects, list the Tote tools and ask me to test a search.

Ideas to Try

Start with your own saved context

Your AI does the planning. Tote brings in the places, recipes, products, workouts, and advice you already chose to save.

1. Ask naturally. Describe the outcome you want.

2. Tote finds the source material. The AI reads only the Totes it needs.

3. You stay in control. Approve any new list or edit before it happens.

Travel

Plan a trip from places you saved

Turn saved restaurants, hotels, places, and travel advice into a shortlist and a realistic itinerary.

Food

Build a meal plan from saved recipes

Choose meals from recipes you meant to try instead of generating another list of unfamiliar dishes.

Fitness

Draft a program from saved workouts

Bring together routines, exercise notes, and training advice you saved across different sources.

Style

Plan outfits from clothes you like

Use saved clothing, shoes, accessories, and outfit inspiration to assemble looks for a trip or event.

Shopping

Find brands that match your taste

Use patterns in saved products and clothing as a starting point for more relevant brand research.

Learning

Turn saved advice into a useful plan

Compare the articles, tips, and videos you saved, then turn the recurring ideas into next steps.

Check the connection

Run 1 search before you move on

A successful setup shows Tote tools in your client and returns results from your own library. An empty result is fine if the connection completes and you have not saved a matching Tote yet.

Your Saved Library

Use what you saved in the conversation

Tote gives your AI account-scoped tools instead of making you paste old links or explain what you saved again.

Find

Search by what you remember

Look across your own Totes by meaning or exact text, then narrow the results by content type.

Understand

Open the useful details

Pull in saved context, links, dates, locations, list memberships, and private notes when you need them.

Create

Turn new research into Totes

Create a private Tote from structured content, or update the title, note, and details of one you already own.

Organize

Keep your lists moving

Create and edit lists, add or remove Totes, and check off items in a to-do list without switching apps.

Permissions and Privacy

Your Library Stays Yours

A connected client works with the Totes your account can access. Your AI client may place returned Tote content in its conversation, so its own data controls also apply.

To disconnect, remove Tote in the client's connector settings. You can reconnect later and review the permissions again.

Your Tote sign-in stays private

The connector issues its own access tokens. Your Apple or Google credentials are never handed to the AI client.

Access is scoped

The sign-in screen shows the requested access. Read access is required; write access lets the client create and organize Totes.

New Totes start private

Creating a Tote through a connected AI does not publish it. Adding private Totes to a public list requires explicit confirmation.

Usage logs exclude your content

Tote records the tool name, outcome, and duration for reliability. It does not log tool arguments, results, search text, email, or OAuth tokens.

Questions

Connect Tote Questions

Account requirements, permissions, supported clients, and the first things to check when a connection fails.

Do I need the Tote app to connect?

No. You can create or sign into a Tote account during authorization. The iPhone and iPad app is the easiest way to build a library from screenshots, links, and social saves, but it is not required for setup.

Which AI clients work with Tote?

The setup guides cover ChatGPT, Claude, Muse, Instinct, Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor. Other clients can connect if they support remote MCP with OAuth 2.1.

How does Tote connect to AI clients?

Tote's connector is a remote MCP server at https://mcp.tote.fyi/mcp with OAuth 2.1, so any client that supports remote MCP can connect.

Can an AI client change my Totes?

Only when you grant write access. With write access, the client can create and update Totes, manage lists, and check off to-do items. Read-only connections can search and open your library without changing it.

How do I disconnect Tote?

Remove or disconnect Tote in your client's connector settings. Coding clients also provide logout commands to clear stored authorization.

What should I try if authentication fails?

Check that you are using the Tote connector URL, clear the client's saved Tote authentication, and connect again. After editing a local configuration, restart the client before testing it.

Build Your Tote Library on iPhone and iPad

The app is not required to connect, but it is the fastest way to save screenshots, links, photos, and social finds for your AI tools to use later.
