Maruyama Park is the oldest public park in Kyoto, established in 1886. Located in the Higashiyama District, it serves as a central hub for locals and tourists alike, offering a serene escape from the city's bustle. The park is designed as a stroll garden, featuring ponds, fountains, and traditional Japanese landscaping. It is most famous for its 'Gion Shidare-zakura' (weeping cherry tree), which is a symbol of the park and is beautifully illuminated at night during the peak blooming season.

The park is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and admission is free. The best time to visit is during the cherry blossom season (late March to early April) or during the autumn foliage season (November). During the Gion Matsuri festival in July, the area becomes a focal point for celebrations. Facilities include public restrooms, benches, and several small restaurants and tea houses scattered throughout the grounds.
